What Does a Business Development Specialist Do?
Business development specialists work with a variety of people from multiple industries, including marketing managers, CEOs of start-up companies, and C-level executives. Your day-to-day work may vary depending on these relationships, but the overall goal is the same: to promote the products and services offered by your client. This can include networking at events, arranging for guest speaking opportunities, or even becoming a guest host on a podcast. Business development specialists must be confident and persuasive communicators who can connect with others and build meaningful relationships over time. You must be able to listen to clients’ needs and desires and translate them into achievable goals.
You will likely attend conferences, events, and meetups related to your client’s field of work. This allows you to network with other professionals and get to know them on a personal level. You should always aim to add value to these relationships; this means attending events in order to learn more about your industry and finding ways to add value to others. This could include introducing two conference attendees who share similar interests or offering to help out a new acquaintance with his or her speaking notes.
